"Off the Wall in Bisbee"

This historic photo shows the typical housing available in Bisbee's redlight district. The concrete steps are all that remain today. You can find these steps as you walk up Brewery Gulch.

During Bisbee's early days women were few and men were many. (I've never heard an accurate count of how many women made a living in this manner, but there must have been more than one or two.)

My uncle did tell me there was a law in Bisbee, that stated a man returning home after a period of absence, must inform his wife of his return date at least 24 hours before he arrives. I'll let you figure out the reason.
